Lifts and escalators

Why air release is the property that matters

In a hydraulic lift, entrained air compresses where oil does not. Air carried in the fluid produces a spongy, stepped or juddering ride, inconsistent stopping and noise at the power unit — symptoms usually blamed on valves. An oil formulated for rapid air release lets bubbles separate in the tank between trips, which is what keeps the ride consistent on a lift cycling all day.

Escalator drives

An escalator gearbox runs continuously under varying load, often in a hot, dusty public environment. Low noise matters commercially as much as load capacity, because an escalator in a shopping centre is heard by every customer.

A note on specification

Lift and escalator work is safety-critical and regulated, and the equipment manufacturer's specification governs. Where a lift company has specified a particular fluid, we will confirm compatibility rather than propose a substitution.
