Industrial lubricants and process fluids by task

This category covers products that do very different jobs, so the useful way through it is by the operation rather than by viscosity.

Metal cutting: neat or water-miscible?

The first decision is whether the operation needs lubrication or cooling. Neat cutting oils lubricate better and give finer surface finish; water-miscible fluids cool far better and suit high-speed work.

• STEELCUT 32 — neat, multi-purpose EP cutting oil with chlorine-free EP additives, for milling, turning and deep-hole drilling of medium and high tensile steel alloys and cast iron.
• ALUCUT 32 — neat, with chlorine-free “inactive sulphur” EP additives, for gear cutting, high-speed hobbing, thread grinding, milling and honing on non-ferrous metals including copper. The inactive sulphur chemistry matters here: an active-sulphur oil stains and attacks copper and its alloys.
• MATRIX — water-miscible concentrate forming a milky emulsion. Always add the oil to the water, never the water to the oil, or the emulsion will invert and separate. Store the concentrate in a cool place.
• MATRIX STR — synthetic cutting fluid for demanding machining, with better oxidation resistance, longer tool life and improved surface finish.

Concrete, casting and release

• MOULD OIL 32 and MOULD RLS C-10 — release oils on super-hydrogenated base oils with vegetable-based lubricity additives, for clean concrete release, fewer surface defects, good form adhesion and rust protection.
• METALFLUID — low viscosity release agent for concrete metal casts.
• CASTING OIL — for severe continuous casting operations, preventing molten metal adhesion, with strong oxidation resistance and a high flash point.
• REGULAR and SILVER — additive-free paraffinic mineral oils for tool lubrication, formwork, wooden casts in concrete shaping, and rubber and polymer processing.

Turbines

• TURBINE (ISO VG 32, 46, 68, 100) — for steam and medium-duty gas turbines, meeting RPVOT and TOST oxidation requirements with anti-rust protection.
• TURBINE S-HT (ISO VG 32, 46) — hydrogen-treated base oils with superior oxidative stability for steam and gas turbines, protecting against sludge, rust and oxidation.

Turbine oil is a long-life charge rather than a consumable, so its condition should be monitored — oxidation, water content and cleanliness — rather than changed on a calendar.

Refrigeration compressors

Refrigeration lubricants must be matched to the refrigerant, not to the compressor. Substituting an air compressor oil here causes oil return failure and compressor damage.

• COMET (ISO VG 46, 68) and COMET SYNPOE 68 — synthetic polyolester lubricants for the newer HFC refrigerants.
• COMET SYNALB 68 — fully synthetic alkylbenzene for refrigeration and cooling compressors evaporating below −40 °C.

Slideways, pneumatic tools and heat transfer

• AXEL (ISO VG 68, 220, 320) — machine tool slideway lubricants with tackiness additives and stick-slip control, which is what gives consistent positioning on slides and tables under extreme pressure.
• ROCK DRILL 100 — heavy duty EP and adhesion additives for pneumatic rock drills in quarries and construction work.
• HTO THERMO (ISO VG 22, 32) — heat transfer fluid for closed circulating systems from 10 °C to 320 °C in industrial, chemical and textile plant.

Circulating and bearing oils

• LEDA CR (ISO VG 100 to 460) — bearing and circulating oil for applications with no anti-wear requirement, with anti-rust and anti-foam additives and excellent demulsibility. For bearings, vacuum pumps and industrial gears needing thermal stability.
• LEDA M CR (ISO VG 220, 320, 460) — formulated for MORGOIL circulation systems, with zinc-free anti-wear additives, oxidative stability, strong water and air separation and rust protection. Rolling mill bearing systems specify this rather than a general circulating oil.

What decides reliability on an Iraqi industrial site

Across all of these, the pattern is the same as in hydraulics: contamination and temperature do the damage, not oil brand. Dust ingress through breathers and reservoir covers, water carried in from washdown and cooler leaks, and oil running hotter than the machine's European rating assumed. Measuring sump temperature and checking breathers is usually a cheaper improvement than upgrading the oil.
