Stationary four-stroke diesel engines running on high-sulphur fuel, in the heavier SAE 20W-50 grade. It meets API CH-4 and CI-4 Plus with Caterpillar ECF-1a, MB 228.1, MTU Category 2, ACEA E5 and E7 and Cummins CES 20076/77/78.
Three situations justify the heavier grade. First, high-hour engines whose clearances have opened up with wear, where a thicker film restores oil pressure and cuts consumption. Second, generator sets under continuous high load in extreme ambient temperatures, where oil temperature stays high for days at a time. Third, engines that have historically been run on a 20W-50 and show no reason to change. For everything else — and for any site where winter starting matters — Cyclon PWR XTB 15W-40 is the better default and carries the wider approval list.
Diesel available in Iraq commonly carries sulphur well above 1000 ppm, and in a continuously running engine that sulphur becomes acid in the crankcase far faster than in a truck that stops every evening. PWR XTB is formulated with the acid and corrosion control needed for exactly that duty, which an ordinary truck oil does not provide however good its API rating looks on the label.
Supplied in 208L drums, which suits the site tanks and pumps used in generator maintenance. Drain on running hours, starting from the engine manufacturer's figure and adjusting only on the evidence of used-oil analysis.
